What’s Apex Shadow Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Trainers, Niantic and Pokemon Go are adding an Apex Shadow version of the two Legendary Pokemon Lugia and Ho-Oh, and many players want to know what is the difference between a Normal Shadow Pokemon and an Apex Shadow Pokemon.

Niantic and Pokemon Go revealed more details about the upcoming Pokemon Go Tour Johto, and the most exciting part are the Apex Shadow Pokemon. Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh will be making their Pokemon Go debut and can be obtained via the Masterwork Research.

Ticket holders who complete Pokemon Go Tour: Johto’s Special Research will unlock a new Masterwork Research line, which is designed to be completed over a long period of time. By progressing through this Masterwork Research, Trainers can encounter Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh. Ticket holders can get both Apex Shadow Pokemon, regardless of which version they select for Pokémon Go Tour: Johto.

Now, let’s talk about Apex Shadow Pokemon and what’s the difference between a Shadow Pokemon and Apex Shadow Pokemon.

Apex Shadow Pokemon are introduced for the first time in the Pokemon world. Just like Pokemon Legends Arceus has Alpha Pokemon, Pokemon Go now has the Apex Shadow Pokemon.

Apex Shadow Pokemon are the same as the Shadow Pokemon. The only differences are the aura visual and the stronger ++ moves.

Apex Shadow Ho-Oh knows Sacred Fire+, a stronger version of Sacred Fire. When Apex Shadow Ho-Oh is purified, Sacred Fire+ will change to Sacred Fire++.

Apex Shadow Lugia knows Aeroblast+, which is a stronger version of Aeroblast. When Apex Shadow Lugia is purified, Aeroblast+ will change to Aeroblast++.

Sacred Fire+ from an Apex Shadow Ho-Oh will be 162 damage, while Sacred Fire++ from an Apex Purified Ho-Oh will be only 155. Aeroblast+ from an Apex Shadow Lugia will be 240 damage, while an Aeroblast++ from an Apex Purified Lugia will only be 220.

Now, because Shadow Pokemon is always stronger than purified Pokemon, we recommend leaving them at +, instead of purifying and getting the ++ move. Apex Shadow Pokemon will definitely beat a purified Apex Shadow Pokemon in a battle.

The Pokemon go Tour Johto goes live next weekend, on February 26, 2022, and we expect to learn more about the Apex Shadow Pokemon when the event goes live.
