Pokémon GO Shiny hatch rates are ridiculous, and it’s no laughing matter

Are you frustrated with the shiny hatch rates in Pokémon GO? You’re not alone. Many trainers have been vocal about their experiences – or lack thereof – when it comes to hatching shiny Pokémon from eggs. With data emerging from players across the globe, it’s becoming evident that there’s room for improvement in the way these rates are managed.

For those new to the Pokémon franchise, encountering a shiny Pokémon is an exhilarating experience. These are rare, alternate-colored versions of the typical Pokémon you know and love. Within Pokémon GO, these coveted variants can be encountered in various ways, including in the wild, during Raid Boss encounters, through Research Task rewards, and even when hatching eggs.

Contrary to the core Pokémon games, Pokémon GO features varying shiny rates across different species. However, these rates remain constant across all encounter methods. For instance, wild Pokémon generally have a 1/500 chance of being shiny, while Tier 5 Raids offer a 1/20 shiny rate. Pokémon that can Mega Evolve or those featured during Community Days come with boosted odds, typically around 1/64 and 1/25, respectively.

But here’s where the rubber meets the road. When it comes to hatching shiny Pokémon from eggs, the rates appear abysmally low. According to a recent Reddit post by a concerned trainer, out of 1,942 eggs, they hatched just four shiny Pokémon. That’s a shiny rate of a measly 0.205%. Another trainer reported hatching 8,505 eggs and getting only 30 shiny Pokémon, putting the rate at 0.353%. Yet another claimed a rate of 0.69% after hatching 1,158 eggs.

While these numbers are derived from player data and aren’t definitive, they certainly beg the question: Are the shiny hatch rates in Pokémon GO fair? After all, hatching eggs involves time, effort, and often in-game or real-world currency for incubators. With rates as low as 0.205%, some trainers are questioning whether the investment is worth it.

So, we turn the conversation over to you. What has been your experience with shiny hatch rates? How many eggs have you hatched, and how many shiny Pokémon have you received? While the shiny rate may be part of the game’s thrill, when does it become a source of frustration? Share your experiences and insights. After all, the world of Pokémon GO thrives on community engagement, and your voice can contribute to a more informed and potentially more equitable gameplay experience.

  1. So after reading this post. I decided to look into my hatched shiny pokemon. And I have hatched 255 eggs, only 2 being a shiny. If my math is correct, that’s 0.0078%. Also, I have yet to get a shiny pokemon from a raid. #gottacatch’emall
