First look at Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake, Tester reveals new gameplay details

A tester who recently participated in the playtest of Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake, has shared some intriguing details about the game. This firsthand account offers a sneak peek into what players can expect from this much-anticipated title.

Set on Rockfort Island, the game follows Claire Redfield in a third-person narrative, reminiscent of the style seen in Resident Evil 2. The tester had the opportunity to dive into a short demo designed to evaluate and provide feedback on new game mechanics.

The game kicks off with a prologue where Claire recalls the explosion in Raccoon City and her search for her brother. This leads to a slow-paced tutorial inside the Umbrella Corp building. Players control Claire as she navigates through offices, evading guards, only to be captured and sent to Rockfort.

The prison area in Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is described as extensive, featuring numerous cells and a guard room. A new character, Ricardo, aids Claire’s escape. During her breakout, Claire encounters a military man in a black suit who is killed by debris from an explosion. As the island is under attack, Claire manages to escape. At the end of this section, she meets Steve in a cell, who persuades her to let him out, joining forces against the corporation.

Players can then switch freely between Claire and Steve, each offering unique abilities. Claire excels with knives and has better, faster-aiming skills, while Steve can dual-wield guns, run faster, and throw knives at enemies. However, Steve cannot mix herbs. Claire is adept at puzzles and can sometimes spot hidden items, whereas Steve has stealth capabilities and knows certain passwords in the complex.

The demo concludes as the characters reach a palace, leaving players eager for more. This tester’s account paints Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake as a game that not only pays homage to its roots but also introduces fresh gameplay elements and mechanics, promising an exciting experience for fans of the series.
