Rise of the Ronin’s Latest Trailer reveals combat styles, and they’re looking quite good

Team Ninja has released a new video for Rise of the Ronin, which reveals 10 minutes of behind-the-scenes talks with the developers, but also showcases some good-looking combat.

Speaking of which, one of the core features is the use of Ki during combat, and how players should focus on incapacitating their opponents’ by depleting their Ki. While it may sound like a mechanic for players to defeat opponents, they will also have the same Ki mechanic.

As they revealed on the PlayStation Blog:

In Rise of the Ronin, Team Ninja combines its signature combat action with Katanas, spears, other melee weapons, and ranged weapons like foreign firearms. As a Ronin, you will battle foes utilizing these two types of weapons.

“The basic combat strategy involves performing melee attacks with Square, defending yourself from foes’ attacks with L1 to guard and Circle to dodge. When your foe’s Ki is completely depleted, they will become vulnerable and incapacitated, making it easier to deal massive damage with critical hits.”

“Similarly, when your Ki is exhausted, you temporarily won’t be able to attack or run, so pay attention to your Ki as you battle.”

There’s plenty more details shared, and it looks like this game is aiming to be something else. Something that we haven’t seen in a while. There will be multiple different combat styles, including weapons, such as great swords, Odachi, and more. But, there will also be lon-ranged weapons too. For more details, check the trailer below.

I am ANGE1K. I started playing video games a long time ago. In a blink of an eye, I became a hardcore gamer. A couple of years later, I traversed to the professional Counter-Strike 1.6 scene. After the competitive ERA, I managed to find the gaming industry amusing and started working on FGR. 8 years after founding FGR, my mission remains the same. That is to discover secrets within the gaming industry, create guides for all the games I play, and provide you with some important news. Oh, yeah, I post tons of patch notes too. At the time, I play everything that seems reasonable to play, make content about it and help gamers to the best of my abilities. P.S. Last time I counted how many hours I've spent in video games turned out to be 13+ years. And that was a long time ago too. Almost 24/7 in front of PC.
